Shapeshift is a trans-led platform for performance, art & film fundraising for Luca Asta’s facial feminisation surgery. At Genesis Cinema on 28th August at 7pm, we’re showing a programme of films that deal with the Shapeshifer, with transformation and change, with costume, disguise and ceremony. Shifting through experimental film, music video and narrative, the programme challenges the idea of the Shapeshifter as inauthentic, exploring change as a site of pleasure, potential, fear and subversion.
Underneath the Floorboards 14th edition, showing the best in video art, experimental film, documentary and animation is in Now Showing (free) on VisualcontainerTV. This selection celebrates the innovative, experimental, and non-linear expressions of video art.
Dates:
Monday, July 28, 2025 - 12:00 to Monday, August 25, 2025 - 12:00
During the final weekend of the summer holidays, R(a/u)pture presents a unique film and music programme at the Winterslag mining ridge. In collaboration with Jester, the collective will showcase seven films on original formats – including one with a live soundtrack – alongside a complementary programme featuring exhibitions, a lecture, and a silent film screening.
Lynn Loo & Guy Sherwin have been working together since 2005 on multiple projector events, sharing the projection of each other’s work in live performance. A typical performance uses two or three 16mm film projectors with sounds mixed live from the visual soundtracks that run along the films’ edges. They have performed these works in a variety of venues in Europe, S.E. Asia, N. America, and Australia.
FUGUE STATE is a new art and cinema festival based in Chicago, NYC, and Los Angeles, embracing radical expression in time-based media.
Programmed by M Woods, multidisciplinary artist, curator, and founder of Disassociative Productions ( www.thedigitalsickness.com ), Phase 1 of the festival presents an entirely independent showcase of experimental and underground cinema screening at The Film-Maker's Coop in NYC, Comfort Station in Chicago, and the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art.
This program brings together seven handcrafted film works by Australian analogue experimentalists Richard Tuohy and Dianna Barrie. Across five years of creative exploration, these films stand as individual experiments in form and structure, each imbued with its own poetic resonance.
This special screening brings together distinct perspectives on how ritual and celebration reshape public space, memory, and identity in the UK. ‘New Territories (spectacle is king)’ by Rhea Storr (2025), ‘The Flora Faddy Furry Dance Day’ by Richard Philpott (1989), and ‘Syncopated Green’ by Arjuna Neuman (2022) recall personal and cultural histories and traditions as they explore Caribbean carnivals, a Cornish festival, and outdoor raves as sites of both joy and resistance.
