  • Roger Beebe: Films for One to Eight Projectors

    Microscope Gallery is pleased to welcome back to the gallery Columbus-based filmmaker Roger Beebe for an evening of films, videos, and multi-projector performances, including several New York premieres shown alongside some of his best-known works. The event is the New York leg of Beebe’s 3,000-mile East Coast tour. The program has been adapted to include only works never before presented at the gallery.

  • Deborah S.Phiips: 3 Colours of Light

    3 Colours of Light: Deliberations on red, blue & green.
    Presented by Berlin-based artist Deborah S.Philips.

    Deborah S.Philips works with a range of analogue media, including printmaking, painting, collage and film. The nature of colour is a subject she has been investigating for over a decade.

    In this programme, through three 16mm films and a 16mm performance with audience participation, she presents her results.

  • Courtisane Festival 2018

    The 2018 edition of Courtisane Festival (March 28th-April 1st Ghent. Belgium) will fature two prominent figures such as documentary filmmakers Wang Bing and Annik Leroy as its artists in focus. As in previous editions, Leroy's programme will present her work in play with work by other filmmakers (Barbara Loden & Artavazd Pelechian).

  • DIM Cinema: Leslie Thornton - So Much Much

    DIM Cinema presents a selection of archival work by New York artist Leslie Thornton in parallel with her exhibition at Vancouver’s Unit 17. A pioneer of contemporary media aesthetics, Thornton works at the limits of cinema, video, and digital media. Films such as X-TRACTS and Peggy and Fred in Hell: The Prologue, both screening here, have coloured the development of her oeuvre over subsequent decades.

    The filmed letter can take the form of dedication, song, offering, celebration, postcard. “Correspondences: Films as Letters”, Punto de Vista’s cycle for 2018, takes as its starting point the idea that, in cinema, an exchange of letters does not have to be sent, and even admits the possibility of making a film letter without a recipient in mind.

    Eugeni Bonet (Barcelona, 1954) is a scholar & specialist in avant-garde cinema, video creation and electronic arts. Since the mid-1970s, he has been working on these disciplines both from a theoretical and from a practical perspective. Throughout his long career he has interspersed programming, curating and writing - Spanish experimental cinema, the beginnings of video art, calculated cinema, film (de)montage, lettrist cinema, etc. - with the production of films and videos of his own.
