  • Bookmarks of Discomfort

    By on

Bookmarks of Discomfort: A timely transdisciplinary collective program that is grounded in reality yet transcends to unify. In recent years discomfort, unfamiliarity, unprecedented events have become our new normal and changed, shook, transformed our lives as we never imagined was possible. The heart of this show is rooted within that deep sense of discomfort, the pleasure and pain to address issues, crises that challenge us, motivate us, move us to grow, understand, empathize, and ultimately heal and bring us together.

"By insisting on giving shape to the images, it would be necessary to start from the relationship between them and time. Without it there is no insistence possible. Repetition and search need time from which to expand.
[...] then, the life of the images would not consist so much in simple immobility or in the successive recovery of movement, but rather in a pause charged with tensions between the two. "

  • Marina Grzinic & Aina Smid: 40 years of militant video art

    By on

Philosopher Marina Gržinić and art historian Aina Šmid produced their first experimental videos in the early 1980s, driven by the punk and queer milieu of Ljubljana. Then, as now, their distinctive experimental language stood out as a potent tool for political and sexual dissidence. Standing up against the Yugoslav regime before its collapse, their militant work subsequently took up the critique of the "most bloodthirsty” forms of capitalism that, since the nineties, has washed over south-eastern European countries.
