art+film+vienna (a+f+v) is an annual festival dedicated to experimental moving-image practices on and beyond the traditional cinema screen. Founded in 2024, the festival explores the intersections of film, visual art, performance, sound, and digital media, creating a platform for works that challenge conventional formats, categories, and modes of presentation.
At the heart of the festival is a curated programme of experimental films. Presentations beyond the screen, expanded cinema, immersive experiences, audiovisual performances, installations, live sound and visual works, workshops, and artist talks explore bounderies.
The festival is centered around Vienna’s historic Breitenseer Lichtspiele, one of the world's oldest continuously operating cinemas, while selected projects extend into other venues and public spaces throughout the city. This creates opportunities for a wide range of presentation formats, from conventional screenings to site-specific installations, live cinema events, and hybrid audiovisual experiences.
We welcome submissions from filmmakers, artists, and interdisciplinary creators whose practices move freely between cinema, contemporary art, performance, music, XR, and emerging media.
A central part of the festival is the exchange between artists and audiences as well as fellow creators, curators, gallerists, distributors, and other cultural professionals in Q&As, panels, interactive event formats and networking opportunities.
If your project includes performative, spatial, installation-based, interactive, or live elements, please describe all presentation requirements as clearly and comprehensively as possible. Detailed information regarding technical, spatial, and production needs will help us evaluate and potentially integrate your work into the festival program.
