Fruto de la colaboración entre l'Alternativa, festival de cinema independent de Barcelona, y Xcèntric, este taller de Adriana Vila Guevara transita una forma de voyerismo que observa a unos fantasmas, sin nombre pero con pasado, para acercarse a una forma de exorcismo entre creación y preservación. Un despojo, una conversión extrasensorial de los remanentes de otras vidas, una ceremonia de apropiacionismo entre contemplación, reinvención e intervención cinematográfica.

Artist and filmmaker Kerry Laitala (San Francisco) and cinema scholar Jonathan Walley (Columbus, OH) engage in an illustrated conversation about expanded cinema, including Laitala’s recent 16mm film projection performance Fire Fly EYE (hand-processed 16mm Ektachrome and B&W film, dual projection) and the iconic paracinematic work Retrospectroscope (1996; pictured above). Walley will also discuss his book Cinema Expanded: Avant-Garde Film in the Age of Intermedia, published last year by Oxford University Press, the first comprehensive historical and theoretical account of expanded cinema published since Gene Youngblood’s landmark book Expanded Cinema (1970).

¿A partir de qué criterios se ha construido el canon del cine? ¿Qué obras han quedado al margen? Durante mucho tiempo, la historia del cine experimental y de vanguardia ha reproducido en gran medida las relaciones de dominación hegemónicas (género, clase, raza y nación). Es solo desde hace relativamente poco que se están escribiendo otras historias que incluyen temas, voces y territorios tradicionalmente ignorados.
