We got over ten thousand views last time around, and this time we're aiming for more.

This program contemplates the idea of the film surface (emulsion), which is inherent in the production and showcasing of images, as a mirror for the environments which are captured. We are interested in films that dismantle the image so it becomes space, and inversely, in films that dismantle space so it becomes an image. What might it mean for an image to undergo a series of chemical or physical changes which may eventually result in the impossibility of representational content?
The Finnish Death Studies Association is issuing an open call for short films and media art works that address death, the process of dying, or encountering death in some way. Artists are free to interpret how the theme relates to their work. The call is open to all genres and forms of expression, ranging from traditional storytelling to experimental approaches. Selected works will be offered screening opportunities in Helsinki and Oulu, Finland. Please submit your work by September 11, 2026. We look forward to seeing your work!
