9th 16mm Film Festival
This year we bring you the 9th edition of the 16mm Film Festival, a festival dedicated to photochemistry. We accept all photo chemical and handmade works. Now open for submissions, we look for unique artistic and personal explorations, films from a diverse range of contexts. These are all showcased at our festival in Mumbai.
At the Harkat Lab, film shares space with leftover lunch boxes, milk, condiments, some things sweet! Our fridge can never be just a film fridge; much like our lab being attached to the kitchen; much like life and the interconnectedness of it all. A film print (a slice of cake) is like a moment in time, private, sometimes paraded publicly, but perhaps best experienced in dark rooms where we feel each other’s presence but can be with ourselves.
The 16mm Film Festival was conceived with a view of re-connecting with the cinematic medium through it's celluloid history. The festival is organised by Harkat, a film lab, alternative arts space and boutique film production company based in Mumbai. With year long engagements and facilitation in the realm of film, Harkat has been working its way through re-building and supporting this lost infrastructure for filmmakers and artists who want to work on film.
