Since 2023 Mothlight Workshops (a collaboration between Shanna Maurizi and Jula Yezbick) has been presenting no-cost 16mm filmmaking workshops in partnership with Detroit Narrative Agency, BULKSpace and Carpenter Creative Corridor. Mothlight Workshops aims to build a local ecosystem around 16mm filmmaking, to gather people around a common love for creative expression, and to demonstrate that this practice is more accessible than people might have previously assumed. As celluloid film equipment becomes more scarce and expensive, they have partnered in 2025 with open source 3D designer Matt McWilliams to produce 3D printed camera accessories for the Bolex. For the Analog Alchemy workshop series, participants worked with 3D printed matte boxes, enabling complex in-camera effects made with layering and double exposure.

This evening of screenings brings together the growing workshop community to share their work with the public, alongside films by Maya Deren, Man Ray, and Paige Taul, with live musical scores by Detroit musicians Jen David and Venusloc.
