The Cinema Museum is proud to present a series of avant-garde film screenings on 16mm in benefit of the Museum’s fundraiser to buy our home.

Our third screening of the season is Dyn Amo (1973), by the avant-garde filmmaker Stephen Dwoskin.

An early work of feminist cinema, associated with Laura Mulvey’s ‘gaze theory’:

“Dyn Amo is a ‘drama’ exploring the distinction between a person’s self and his projection of that self to others; and it’s a ‘horror movie’ tragically suggesting how a projection can become more substantial than the self behind it. Its subjects are role-playing (especially sexual role-playing), and the masochism of playing a role that conforms to others’ exploitative interests.” Tony Rayns

The screening will be introduced by Rachel Garfield, co-editor of Dwoskino: The Gaze of Stephen Dwoskin (LUX, 2022) and the forthcoming Stephen Dwoskin is… (published by BFI).

All proceeds from this screening will go towards the Museum’s fundraiser to buy our home.
