It is a pleasure to present Final Obscura, a feature film by James Fotopoulos in the intimate space of Murmurcontemporary in Montreux, Switzerland.
James Fotopoulos is an acclaimed and internationally recognized experimental filmmaker who has exhibited his work at prestigious institutions and film festivals around the world.
Final Obscura is a visionary film that unfolds on a space where the lines between past, present, and future dissolve into a single, phantasmic experience - an Exquisite Corpse of perception, desire, and transcendent imagination. The film submerses the viewer in a captivating, liminal dimension where the waking and dreaming worlds merge, inviting us to reflect on the nature of time, and the anamorphic emerging worlds of the anamnesis expression in seeing the sound.
The films of James Fotopoulos have screened widely including the Whitney Biennial, Sundance Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, London Film Festival, Festival del Film Locarno, Walker Art Center, Museum of Modern Art, Andy Warhol Museum, Museum of Art and Design, Museum of the Moving Image, MOMA PS1, etc. His work has been discussed in Artforum, The New York Times, The Village Voice, Film Comment, Filmmaker Magazine, New York Post, and others. In 1998 he founded Fantasma for the production of his second feature Migrating Forms (1999).
Murmurcontemporary focuses on experimental formats across installation, moving image, and sound, with an emphasis on spatial perception and sensory materiality.
The film Final Obscura will be broadcasted on September 27th - 28th, starting at 17:30 pm CET.
