The 62nd edition of the Pesaro Film Festival will feature a retrospective of Austrian visual artist and filmmaker Friedl vom Gröller on June 19–20.
Born in London in 1946, Friedl vom Gröller spent her childhood between Vienna and Berlin. She studied photography at the School of Graphic Arts in the Austrian capital from 1965 to 1969. Having made more than 100 films, vom Gröller works with 16mm film stock—almost always in black and white and usually without sound—using 30-metre reels and a hand-cranked camera. No script, no assistant, no post-production: her films are edited almost entirely in camera.
Curated by Cecilia Ermini and Stefano Miraglia, the retrospective consists of two programs featuring a total of twenty films made between 1968 and 2025, all screened exclusively on 16mm. Some of the films are being shown in Italy for the first time. Friedl vom Gröller will be in attendance.
