CallForFilm.org Invites Filmmakers to Submit to Our 24/7 Experimental Broadcast.
For more than a decade we have reliably watched SouvenirsFromEarth.tv and Acretv.org, we've tracked festival listings here on ExpCinema.org and on on Hi-beam.net religiously. As filmmakers, we experienced Backstage.com’s purchase of FilmFreeway, and Amazon’s shuttering of Withoutabox.com. A slow consolidation transforming film submission from a networked practice into a centralized marketplace, and we applaud the platforms that remain grassrooted.
From these observations, we launched CallForFilm.org with hopes to further interupt the power dynamics between independent film circulation and traditional festival call models. The center of this proposed interuption is a continuously programmed 24-hour live stream. This broadcasst is assembled with independent, underground, experimental, and artist moving image works, as well as festival trailers, curated programs, and manifestos. This hybrid “network” is designed to present filmmakers and festival platforms on even ground, flattening the hierarchy between submission and exhibition.
Filmmakers are called to submit their work to our 247 stream for curatorial consideration at no cost: allowing programmers to review works for inclusion within this growing process. Curated content featured within the livestream may be highlighted and/or contextualized through our bergeoning social media and email bulletin. For creators seeking guaranteed placement: CallForFilm.org also offers a sponsored tier. The sponsored tier, alongside the listing structure, enables this experiment to remain online.

Cinema does not die in transformation. It dies in circulation, in the systems that decide what is seen and for how long. CallForFilm.org does not stand outside this condition, but works within it to alter the terms. Whether your film is included through curatorial selection or sponsored placement, CallForFilm.org will provide and maintain a cinema forward online experience for independent films and digital exhibition.
