The third Haft Cinema programme, Unavoidable Paradoxology: Two Films by Su Friedrich is out now. You are invited to organise a screening of the Unavoidable Paradoxology programme anywhere, at any scale, any time through October and November 2025.

"In Su Friedrich’s films, a will to articulation meets a refusal to flatten ambiguity. The unavoidable paradoxes – and unavoidable difficulty in grappling with them – that these convictions engender are embraced with frankness and curiosity [...] The present programme selects two such works: Sink or Swim (1990) and Seeing Red (2005), each of which takes on a rigorous formal approach to articulate something of the filmmaker’s life experiences. Sink or Swim is a stubbornly complex portrait of a clever, careless, cruel father, and a daughter (Friedrich) formed by his behaviour. Seeing Red takes on frustrations of a creative midlife with an irrepressible multiplicity of attitudes, including but not limited to fury; anxiety, and good humour…"
