A collection of sourcebooks compiled by experimental filmmaker Peggy Ahwesh during the production of some of her most notable films: Martina’s Playhouse (1989), The Deadman (1990), She Puppet (2001), Ape of Nature (2009), and OR119 (2022). Each of these films are significant milestones in Ahwesh’s career and have had remarkable influence on the landscape of experimental filmmaking.
Luther Price came to Visual Studies Workshop as a visiting artist in 2017 to give a week-long workshop on hand-made film. Though the workshop ended tumultuously, Price maintained a sporadic and sometimes fraught correspondence with VSW Press editor Tate Shaw. The project was temporarily tabled, and Price died in 2020 at the age of 58.
VSW Press is pleased to announce our latest publication, Bouquets 11-20: Notebooks by Rose Lowder, an exciting new artist book featuring direct reproductions of the notebooks of experimental filmmaker Rose Lowder. Each page is an illustrated transcription of 10 seconds of 16mm film from Lowder's Bouquets series, hand-drawn in 24-frame increments by the artist after the film has been shot.
