Co-founded by Golden Bear winning director Adina Pintilie in 2010, Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival is an annual event dedicated to experimental films and visual arts. BIEFF aims to promote highly innovative films and filmmakers with strong personal views on contemporary reality, which also daringly explore the boundaries of cinematic language.

The festival program includes two short film competitions (International Competition and National Competition), special short and feature film programs, exhibitions and installations featuring each year more than 80 short films and 10 feature films.

The festival aims to create a space for dialogue between filmmakers and their audience both in the context of Q&A sessions held after the screenings and with special director’s talks and thematic panels.

The 15th edition of the festival will take place in Bucharest on September 22 - 28, 2025.

The films selected for the International Short Film Competition will be considered for the following awards: BIEFF Main Award, Best Directing Award, Best Visual Concept Award.

The films selected for the National Short Film Competition will be considered for the Best Romanian Short Film Award.

The total awards sum is in the amount of EUR 4,000 in cash and aprox. EUR 20,000 in post-production services.
