This program contemplates the idea of the film surface (emulsion), which is inherent in the production and showcasing of images, as a mirror for the environments which are captured. We are interested in films that dismantle the image so it becomes space, and inversely, in films that dismantle space so it becomes an image. What might it mean for an image to undergo a series of chemical or physical changes which may eventually result in the impossibility of representational content?
Films submitted may be narrative, experimental, documentary or collage and can be up to 20 minutes long. If you are located in either NYC or Mexico City and would like to read a text, present a slideshow or another form of performance / time-based work, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
Works can be submitted until Sunday, August 23, 11:59 EDT to imagesandsurfaces@gmail.com.
