Otherworldly Film Festival 3.0

The independent film festival Otherworldly 3.0 is now accepting submissions. This season's main theme is transition.

We are looking for films that take place on the threshold and linger in the gap between what is here, what is no longer with us, and what is yet to come. We want to see how transition grows through the very fabric of the image — in editing, rhythm, sound, silence, and in how the camera touches the world or averts its gaze from it.

This year, we focus on several states of transition. The negative image — it already exists but hasn't been fully developed. The pulsating screen — transition as a flicker that never resolves, leaving us suspended between beat and pause, light and its disappearance, sound and silence. The emptiness / gap — the interval between stages where nothing happens, yet it is precisely there that transition takes place. The land / soil — as the material border of states and regions, as a symbolic surface between the living and the dead, the fertile and the destructive.

We are looking for experimental works in any format: film essay, diary film, found footage, i-movie, structural film, sensory (auto)ethnography, acousmatic film, instructional film, desktop documentary, negative film, and anything beyond these categories.

The film must have been completed in 2024, 2025, or 2026, and its duration should not exceed 30 minutes. The festival is scheduled for late summer-early autumn 2026.

About the festival

Otherworldly 3.0 is a festival-laboratory where cinema becomes a tool for research. We bring together film theory and experimental filmmaking practice. Each season introduces new thematic and metaphorical vectors that evolve alongside directors, audiences, and curators.

The festival is based in Saint Petersburg, but we also organize screenings in other cities, such as Moscow, Vyborg, and Kaliningrad. This year, Otherworldly 3.0 will take place for the third time, and its locations are yet to be determined.

Our festival is independent and funded by the curators' personal resources and audience support. We are not affiliated with any grants or organizations.
