the8fest Small-Gauge Film Festival is a festival for anyone using small-gauge to create rough little gems on film. We are a unique Toronto-based film festival that presents all forms of small-gauge film: 8mm, Super 8, and 9.5mm, as well as exhibiting works in installation, loops, personal, handmade, experimental, animations, diaries, essays, collage, cut-ups, performance-based films, sound-based films, and ‘proto-cinema devices’ like zoetropes. the8fest Small-Gauge Film Festival presents films from a range of local, national, and international small-gauge creators, collectives, and communities. Showcasing over 70 years of small-gauge film history– from artists’ works dating back to the 1950’s and 60’s, to it’s wider cultural use in home movies, instructional loops, and beyond – the8fest Small-Gauge Film Festival provides a forum for artists who want to exhibit their small-gauge work to an audience who wants to see their work in its original and/or adapted form.
the8fest Small-Gauge Film Festival is dedicated to paying IMAA fees for all submissions screened at the festival. We accept submissions from both local and international artists. We also do not charge submission fees, so all submissions are free.
