    EYES WITHOUT GAZE is an experimental film that breaks with conventional storytelling. Through a fragmented, atmospheric narrative, it weaves together different perspectives into one dreamlike tale of trauma, power, and justice.

  • Five Films from Michael Snow and Joyce Wieland

    As pioneers of the structural film movement, Michael Snow (1929-2023) and Joyce Wieland (1930-1998) reshaped and redefined experimental cinema. 

    Joyce Wieland rose to prominence as a successful painter in the 1950s, before expanding her practice as a conceptual artist and filmmaker. Her films' blend of formal creativity and political engagement proved hugely influential for the generations that followed.

    Carrier Base contemplates the material surface of moving images and the relation between the container and the contained. The nine short experimental films within this program establish a dialogue between two ways of looking: On one side are materially altered works in which the film stock itself has transformed through time and exposure. On the other are works that carry us, whether slowly or rapidly, through interior and exterior spaces that refuse to easily give themselves over to the viewers perception.

    Aurora presents a selection of short video works created over the last two decades by Berlin-based artist Janaye Brown. In these works, the sensory experience of time in everyday life is isolated through static long shots, poetic text, atmospheric sound, and slow gestures–both natural and mechanical. Restrained pace and obscured narratives simultaneously create anticipation and contemplation. The program includes the premiere of Brown’s new work Rosewood, a reflection on the contrasting local histories of two burial grounds on Galveston Island.
