    Red Hook Cine Soiree!!
    Saturday July 31st, 15h
    BWAC - Red Hook, Brooklyn
499 Van Brunt Street, Brooklyn, NY

    Guest Programmer Joel Schlemowitz presents...

A salon of experimental and underground films from cine-artists Marie Losier, Jennifer Reeves, Nathaniel Lambert Cummings, Bradley Eros & Tim Geraghty, Jim Jennings, Jeremy D. Slater, Sheri Wills.

A summer afternoon and short works of avant-garde cinema? Our agenda is to program our soiree attuned to the enchantment of the season of Mid-Summer Nights' Dreams, to indulge ourselves in the hazy and lazy segment of the calendar, to enlighten ourselves lightly and sprightly, to work Puckish mischief on the screen, to take respite from the oppressive sun in the magic lantern parlor by the sea.

Expect red wine and soft cheese, and 78s of 1920s Hawaiian guitar played on the Victrola!

Directors Lounge - Aline Helmcke: Time-Framed
    Friday July 16th 2010, 21:30h
    Galerie Meinblau, Pfefferberg
    Christinenstr. 18/19, D-10119 Berlin, Germany

Aline Helmcke either uses the drawing pen or the camera to create her film images. Her last film, “Rehe blicken nicht nach oben”, was realized with actors, scriptwriting and a tangible narration. The drawings, however, are based on photographs, or better saying on media images. The movement that derives from the differences of images – the animation, as we call it – though emphasizes the movements of drawing itself and the differences between one line and another line, but it rarely creates the illusion that we know from other animation films.

What we thus may find here, is the wonderful hesitation of a young artist amongst a world of an rapidly accelerating flood of media images. The hesitation, the slowing-down, may already be a result of the painfully slow techniques of film drawings. (“I think I can call myself a filmmaker now, something I always strived for.” A.H.)

Anyhow, Aline Helmcke conceives images of a poetic hesitation in her films, and it is well worth following their progression and unfolding, thus contemplating Aline’s out-drawn thought process.

A series of films from different artists, selected by the Aline Helmcke, completes the program, all of them either exploring drawing or being composed with frame-by-frame photography. The artist will introduce the program and be available for Q&A. Please feel invited.

    "Daylight Moon" by Lewis Klahr
    16mm film, color, sound (Optical), 14 ', 2003

Oporto, Salvador Correia de Sá, 42, 2 frente, 1200-399 Lisboa

Lewis Klahr is the long waited follower of Max Ernst and Joseph Cornnell´s surrealist legacy. His films are unique cinematic-collages, uncanny streams of scenarios where subjects and things try (and fail) to fall into an order.
Daylight Moon is an elliptical narrative, a detective story told in images and shadows from old Americana comics and ads. The film reveals a subtle unconscious quest for the unnamed pleasure or crime.

"a melancholic longing for an irrecoverable past" Alexandre Estrela

Oporto is a studio and a non-profit screening room located in Lisboa. Occupying the former Merchant Sailors Union headquarters, Oporto projects from time to time a single unique experimental video or film. The programme is exquisite and extremely slow. The selection of the pieces screened is made, not only on the basis of the work itself, but also on an overall idea of an exquisite corpse . The space is directed by artist Alexandre Estrela, in cooperation with designers and associate program managers Antonio Gomes and Claudia Castelo a.k.a. Barbara Says and artist Miguel Soares. Sponsored by GAU- Gestão de Audiovisuais.

6630 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, Florida, USA

Elusive Landscape will be presented at five public parks in Miami from June to October 2010. This work consists of multiple hand-crafted 16mm films depicting the forms and colors of natural landscapes projected directly into the landscapes themselves. These events will be free and open to the public.

Elusive Landscape promotes environmental awareness by celebrating Miami's lush urban greenspaces and natural eco-systems. It connects the city’s diverse audiences and neighborhoods by engaging everyday people with an experience that is sensorial, magical, celebratory and rooted in nature, and by presenting similar events across the city so that it becomes a shared, unifying experience.

Artist Dinorah de Jesús Rodríguez brings to this project over 30 years’ experience in hand-crafted 16mm filmmaking, as well as a history of moving image installation, including several works which have included projections in the outdoors. Her work is exhibited internationally in film festivals, museums, galleries, independent venues and public spaces, and she has received numerous grants, fellowships and residency awards for her work.
