Close-Up Cinema concludes its unique retrospective of One Minute, the experimental moving-image series assembled and distributed by artist and filmmaker Kerry Baldry, who began compiling the project in 2007.

Bringing together experimental, oblique and poetic video works by artists at varying stages of their careers, One Minute (volume 1) offers a fascinating snapshot of artists at the beginning of what would become significant and influential practices.

The Hart of London is an endlessly layered tour de force. It explores life and death, the sense of place and personal displacement, and the intricate aesthetics of representation. It is a personal and spiritual film, marked inevitably by Jack Chambers’s knowledge that he had leukemia. The late American avant-garde filmmaker Stan Brakhage said of The Hart of London, “If I named the five greatest films ever made, this has got to be one of them.” Even this high praise falls short of hyperbole.
