The retrospective BUT ELSEWHERE IS ALWAYS BETTER presents Ostrovsky's influential work in its entirety for the first time – as a filmmaker, a passionate film explorer and a “passeuse de films.”

A film series created over the course of seven years exploring Black culture and the African diaspora through jazz and shared histories, using music to shape its rhythm, energy and visual language.
Kristina Warren is a Providence-based sound & media artist using hybrid analog/digital tools to tell complex stories in relatable ways. At L&SD Warren will perform several recent audiovisual synth works, including selections from Three Rivulets (https://kmwarren.bandcamp.com/album/three-rivulets), praised as "beautifully organic" (Peter Bruyn) and "seductive and erudite" (Frédéric Cardin). Expect an intense, intricately-crafted journey with balanced ebbs and flows.
For the closing event of the exhibition Altogether Without, we will be screening a programme of 16mm short films that explore the tension between still and moving images.
On Friday, November 7th, at 6pm, legendary musician, filmmaker, and multimedia artist Tav Falco (whose moving image work recently joined the collection of The Film-Makers' Cooperative) visits the FMC Screening Room (475 Park Avenue South, 6th Floor) to present a troika of sui generis films, including his avant-garde feature THE URANIA TRILOGY.
