25 FPS Festival 2017 call for entries

25 FPS Festival is inviting new films to apply for the International Competition of the 2017 edition taking place in Zagreb between September 28th and October 1st.

We're searching for innovative explorations of cinematic language, narration and the medium itself, film types and genres that cross and broaden the notion of film as art. Festival is open to expressive original concepts, progresses in terms of theme, idea and aesthetics, as well as works that perpetuate the tradition of avant-garde and experimental film.

(S8) 6th Mostra de Cinema Periférico

This year's edition of (S8) Mostra de Cinema Periférico (June 3-7, A Coruña, Spain) is focused on two main strands: on the one hand, a Ken Jacobs restrospective, including two Nervous Magic Lantern performances and a masterclass; on the other hand, a focus on Brazilian avant-garde cinema, including classic films as Mario Peixoto's Límite or others by proponents of the CInema Novo and Cinema Marginal movements such as Glauber Rocha, Nelson Pereira dos Santos and Rogério Sganzerla. The artistic duo Melissa Dullius and Gustavo Jahn (Distruktur) will present a selection of their works and a triple film performance using 16mm projectors. The Brazilian avant-garde section will also imnclude works by Duo Strangloscope, Gustavo Beck, Ana Vaz, Helder Martinovsky, Priscyla Bettim and Renato Coelho.

Waving to the decade behind us, upfront is 11 - our new favourite number! 25 FPS Festival is looking out for new films to be presented in Competition programme of the 2015 edition. We invite authors, producers and distributors to submit innovative, progressive works that explore the possibilities of film as a medium, balance between film types, genres and techniques and broaden the idea of film and cinema.

For the Competition Programme we accept works completed after 1st of January 2013 and not longer than 60 minutes. 25 FPS Festival does not charge an entry fee. Please read our Regulations before filling out the online entry form.

25 FPS Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary end of September in Zagreb, and is keen in inviting you to already take part by submitting your film, as we all know that the best director is the one who applies!

Indeed, there are more numbers than just 10 to make this edition worth celebrating – since 2005 festival has screened 886 films – 204 on 16mm, 152 on 35mm and a dozen of Super8. The rest was all kinds of video and digital sublime that overtakes us. It’s not like we’re being old fashioned or old canned, but please do keep those formats coming. As you all know that Festival 25 FPS enjoys avant-garde cinema, ingenious films exploring possibilities of cinematic language and broadening the notion of film as art.

So, let's make our eyes explode!

Our call for entries is open until 31st of May 2014 and Regulations are short, easy to read and valuable before filling out our online entry form.

25 FPS Festival is looking for expressive original concepts, progresses in terms of theme, idea and aesthetics, as well as works that perpetuate the tradition of avant-garde and experimental film. Innovative films that explore the possibilities of cinematic language, narration and the medium itself, cross film types and genres and broaden the notion of film as art.

For the Competition Programme we accept films completed after 1st January 2011, and not longer than 60 minutes. Submissions can be made via link or DVD, and deadline is 15th May 2013.

25 FPS International Experimental Film and Video Festival is organized by the 25 FPS Association for Audio-visual Research, Zagreb, Croatia.
25 FPS promotes innovative and alternative visual expressions, original visual concepts, works of stylistic, linguistic and media diversity, works based on the tradition of avant-garde and experimental genre.

Eligibility
Experimental films and videos up to 60 minutes completed after January 1st 2010 are eligible for 25 FPS Competition Program.

Pre-selection
- DVD is accepted as preview copy. It will NOT be returned to the sender.
- DivX or other formats on CD are NOT accepted as previews.
- DVD and a filled (printed) entry form must be sent to the Festival address.
- When sending a DVD, please indicate “For cultural purposes only, no commercial value” on the package or you may be required to pay customs duties.
- Festival accepts previews submitted by link, but only with a filled entry form.
- If the work applied by link enters the second round of pre-selection, Festival will require the work on DVD. In that case the applicant will have to send a DVD at their own expense.
- If the film has a dialogue in any language other than English, preview must be subtitled in English or accompanied by a printed dialogue list.

Croatia's 25FPS Experimental Film and Video Festival reaches its seventh edition this year (Zagreb, September 20-25). During its six days, the festival will present over seventy short films, features and performances. This year's jury, formed by Tanja Vrvilo (Croatia), Tina Frank (Austria) and Ben Russell (USA), will have to select the winners from the 33 works in the competitive section. Each member of the jury, as in previous years, will also present a programme of short films curated by them.

The section 'Focus on Croatia' will present a selection of recent film and video works from the Balkan country, including the latest pieces by Ivan Faktor, Ana Hušman or Dalibor Baric. The festival keeps a special attention to expanded cinema, with the seminal Light describing a cone by Anthony McCall and live performances by Paul Clipson & Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Greg Pope & Gert-Jan Prins and Ben Russell.
