14th Edition Of The Paris Festival Of Different & Experimental Cinemas

Organized by the Collectif Jeune Cinema (CJC), french cooperative for film distribution, the Paris Festival of Different & Experimental Cinemas is devoted exclusively to experimental, different, avant-garde & art cinemas.

The Paris Festival of Different and Experimental Cinemas opens an international call for entries. For its 14th edition, the festival will focus more specifically on Eastern productions.

- Submissions are open to all recent (2011-2012) experimental films
- Any length and format are eligible
- All films in a language other than French must be subtitled in French (unless dialogue or commentary is unnecessary for comprehension and appreciation)
- Each entry must be accompanied by a DVD Screener
- Submissions must be postmarked no later than July 15th, 2012
- No entry fee

Marcel Mazé (1940-2012)

One of the iconic figures in the history of 'different cinema' in Europe, Marcel Mazé (1940-2012) passed away last night. Marcé founded and then presided over the years Collectif Jeune Cinéma, the first filmmaker's cooperative in France over forty years ago, in 1971, after the model of Jonas Mekas' Film-Makers’ Cooperative. Film journalist, occasional filmmaker (his best known film is Focalises from 1980), actor in several films of Stéphane Marti, Mazé also helped create the Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux de Paris. To better appreciate his passion for 'different films' read the interview that Viviane Vagh made for Senses of Cinema on the occasion of CJC's 40th anniversary.

- Each entry must be accompanied by a DVD Screener
- Submissions must be postmarked no later than September 15th, 2010
- There are NO entry fees

11th Festival des Cinémas Différents

Collectif Jeune Cinema's Festival des Cinémas Différents reaches its eleventh edition. During six evenings from December 8 to 13, at the cultural centre La Clef, the festival will offer screenings, performances and installations focused on two main themes: "Silver textures, digital materials" and "Experimentation from Mexico to the Southern Cone".

Highlights of this year's festival are the retrospectives dedicated to filmmakers Siegfried Fruhauf, Christina Von Greve and Narcisa Hirsch. The festival will dedicate its closing evening to an homage to the late filmmaker Raymonde Carasco with the projection of her 1999 film Ciguri - Tarahumaras 99 - Le dernier Chaman.
