Light Movement Hoorn

A evening of films co-curated with Light Movement, from Berlin, as part of the residency of Alanna Lawley.

The artist and HMK resident Alanna Lawley seeks to absorb her environment’s physical terms, creating site-specific architectural constructions that masquerade as photographic collages. Through multiple processes, Lawley creates connections to the spatial and physical relationships of image, space and photography. She invited Light Movement to organise a selection of films as a reflection on the themes present in her ambitious site-specific works and to inform her residency at Hotel Maria Kapel, where she continues to develop her body of work referred to as 3D collages.

With too much hustle and excessive envy you tried to cage the cinematic image inside logic and schemes which it resisted in every possible way, and in this same resistance not only the image but affirmed its existence, at the same time, also was vented, these logic cages, of which every time nothing remained but the possibility through which, incessantly, they went to replenish itself, reiterating that their attempt to-present the image. But the image does not show up, it indeed exists to presentification and this exist.

Light Movement 13: Colour Spaces

Light Movement returns to Spektrum this month, and in more ways than one! Colour Spaces presents a collection of films in which colour is a key factor, either in forming the works concept, its formal structure, its depiction of space, or simply an atmosphere. This screening groups together a wide range of works by some incredible filmmakers and artists, all using colour in ways unique to their respective practices.

Light Movement presents in collaboration with Arsenal Berlin: Vincent Grenier

This month we are very lucky to be able to offer you this incredible double program from Vincent Grenier, who will be present at the Arsenal and visits us as part of a tour of Europe. Grenier originates from Quebec City in Canada, but has spent much of his time living in New York, as well as being highly active in the Montreal Art scene of the 70's and 80's. Since the 70's he has made experimental films, creating a body of distinct work on 16mm, before branching out into HD cinema at the end of the 90's, furthering his facination with uncertain spaces, unexpected shifts in filmic constructions and "visual movements comprised of both experiential and physical interactions with the image and philosophical queries into the nature of representation."
