Submit now to the competitions of the 72nd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen

The International Short Film Festival Oberhausen is now calling for submissions of German and international short film productions and music videos to the competitions of its 72nd edition. The Festival will take place from 28 April to 3 May 2026, the deadline for submissions is 19 January 2026. In its five competitions – for international and German productions, productions from North Rhine-Westphalia, for international children’s and youth films and German music videos – the 2026 Festival will award a total of almost 45,000 euros in prize money.

Submissions for all competitions must have been completed after 1 January 2025 and be made via the Festival website. The Early Bird submission deadline applies only to the International Competition.

EFA, Oscars, BAFTA, ECFA
Oberhausen is a nominating festival for the European Film Award and the ECFA Short Film Award as well as a qualifying festival for the short film Oscars and the British Academy Film Awards, provided the winning films comply with the regulations of the respective awards.

The 71st International Short Film Festival Oberhausen
The 71st Oberhausen Festival took place from 29 April to 4 May 2025. It was the first edition helmed by Madeleine Bernstorff (artistic director) and Susannah Pollheim (business director). 125 titles were presented in competition. All in all, the Festival screened nearly 500 films in its competitions and thematic programmes.
