In Santa María Tlahuitoltepec, in the state of Oaxaca, the women's organization Poj Kaa manages a community herbarium. Plant-searching expeditions are a way to share knowledge with midwives, healers, and xëmaapyë. In Teotitlán del Valle, the Ruiz family searches for colors they find in plants and insects, which they use to dye the wool they use to weave rugs. “(...) Al artista hay que darle más cuerda de la necesaria. A menudo se ahorca a si mismo para sentir la experiencia, aunque esta criatura tiene un cuello duro, ¡Denle tiempo! Tal vez él sea más consciente del tiempo que cualquier tipo de individuo. Es un explorador de sus propias dualidades.(...)”

  • 16mm film screening with Hannes Schüpbach

    By on

Welcome to a screening with the Basel-based filmmaker and artist Hannes Schüpbach. Since the 1990’s, Schüpbach has created a dynamic work focusing on the fine-calibrated changes of the gestures, landscapes, bodies and light. In his 16mm films, we often encounter a peculiar movement between spontaneity, intimacy and a progestically fragmented work in which, as he expressed it—the “the surroundings meet the eye” — crystallizes a form that is unmistakable Schüpbachsk.
