    Microscope is very pleased to host a program of rare Super 8mm films by seven women artists, organized by Lumia and Michele Pierson, visiting from London. The works by Peggy Ahwesh, Nina Fonoroff, Marjorie Keller, Janis Crystal Lipzin, Julie Murray, Natalka Voslakov, and Jacalyn White span a period from 1974 to 1988

The programme has been selected by Berlin-based archivist and scholar Masha Matzke, who will also introduce the screening.

    As creative devices, humor and play have the power to both soothe and subvert. When juxtaposed with serious themes in art, humor and play may create cognitive dissonance in the viewer where, amidst their internal conflict, viewers can often laugh at their own discomfort. Henri Bergson noted in “Laughter: An Essay on the Meaning of the Comic,” there is an “…absence of feeling which usually accompanies laughter.” This absence creates a space for viewers to unpack the deeper conceptual underpinnings of the work.

    Una casa. es un proyecto multidisciplinar de exhibición, creación, investigación y formación, que se celebra desde 2016 en la ciudad de Madrid, organizado por la Asociación Cultural Anima*Ars (A*ARS) y que gira en torno a las formas cinematográficas y audiovisuales autorreferenciales. El proyecto desarrolla una línea de investigación en torno al concepto etnografía doméstica, creado por el teórico del cine Michael Renov, para nombrar aquellas películas que establecen un tránsito entre lo personal y lo público, entre lo psicológico y lo antropológico.

    ominic Angerame. De nacionalidad norteamaricana. Nacido en Nueva York en 1949, vive, da clases y trabaja en San Francisco. Desde 1969, Dominic Angerame ha realizado más de veinticinco películas, que han sido proyectadas y premiadas en diversos festivales cinematográficos de todo el mundo. Dos series “Cine Probe” del MoMA de Nueva York han estado dedicadas a él en 1993 y 1998. Angerame da clases de realización, fotografía y crítica en la Universidad de Berkeley y en el Art Institute de San Francisco.

    Phil Solomon (January 3, 1954—April 20, 2019) was among the great avant-garde filmmakers of this era. Solomon’s more than twenty films and digital pieces create an interior universe that has rarely, if ever, been surpassed in any medium for its intimacy, evocation of personal sensibility, expressive dream-like sounds and images, and for its sublime—and terrifying—sense of ambiguity between the recognizable world and its dissolution.
