The Cinema Museum is proud to present a series of avant-garde film screenings on 16mm, in benefit of the Museum’s fundraiser to buy our home.

Our first screening of the season is the avant-garde film epic Dog Star Man (1964), directed by Stan Brakhage. Running time: 80 mins.

Described as a “cosmological epic” and “creation myth”, Dog Star Man illustrates the odyssey of a bearded woodsman (Brakhage) climbing through a snow-covered mountain with his dog to chop down a tree. While doing so, he witnesses various mystical visions with various recurring imagery such as a woman, child, nature, and the cosmos while making his ascent.

This screening encompasses all 5 parts of Dog Star Man, from the Prelude to Parts I to IV.

The Cinema Museum is proud to present a rare screening of this avant-garde film classic in its original format. All proceeds go towards The Cinema Museum’s fundraiser to buy our long-term home.
