    This weekend spotlight on film pioneer Pat O’Neill explores the Los Angeles artist’s recent moving image work and dynamic use of various animation techniques. Playing continuously in the Gina and Stuart Peterson White Box, this program includes a three-channel version of Trouble in the Image (1996/2015). Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Pat O’Neill: Three Answers on Floor 7.

  • There are no rules! Restored and Revisited Avant-Garde Films from the Netherlands

    From the 4th until the 6th of June curator Simona Monizza from the Eye Filmmuseum and freelance curator Marius Hrdy will be presenting a series of 4 programs of preserved Dutch experimental films from the Eye collection at the Filmmuseum in Vienna. These four programs will showcase analogue prints on 35mm and 16mm.

  • Cinema Parenthèse #21: David Lamelas

    In the framework of the exhibition Mario García Torres: Illusion Brought Me Here, Cinéma Parenthèse and Wiels presents a screening of 16mm films by David Lamelas (b.1946, Argentina), a pioneering conceptual artist working also with sculpture, installations, and video.

    This programme showcases three of his essential films from 1970 that, through different modes of abstraction, explore spatial and temporal dimensions of urban topographies and paradoxical performative gestures within the verbal recitation of literary texts.

    Simon Payne studied at the Kent Institute of Art and Design, Maidstone; Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee; and the Royal College of Art, London. As a student, he quickly identified with formal approaches and traditions in experimental film. But he eschewed filmmaking, preferring the immediacy of video, especially when it became a digital medium that facilitated a readily systematic means of dealing with time.
