Celluloid Artist proposes an alternative encounter with space and time. With photochemical processes we employ a material that “rubs” against the living world. The result is an imprint, a trace, a film that filters light moving in time through our bodies to create a map of our first-person perspectives.
This workshop explores how celluloid cinema can document an encounter within the spaces of a city or town; through fragments of light, architecture and gesture. Participants will be invited to create cameraless works “phytograms” that can document the flora surrounding them.

Works from Solomon Nagler

Solomon Nagler is a Canadian filmmaker originally from Winnipeg, Canada. Allegorical and fragmented in form, his work is composed of fragments of recognizable reality that commingle with the raw matter of hallucination and nascent form. His work also includes 16mm celluloid installations that engage with sculpture and experimental architecture in galleries and public space. Solomon Nagler is co-founder of WNDX: Festival of the Moving Image in Winnipeg and currently lives in Halifax where he is a professor of film production at NSCAD University.
