Pietro Gardoni — 8 Pezzi di Videoarte
Eight video works exploring nature, sound and experimental cinema
On October 30, Italian video artist Pietro Gardoni will present 8 PEZZI di videoarte, a special screening of eight works at Cinema Nuovo Eden in Brescia, an arthouse cinema managed by Fondazione Brescia Musei, one of the city's major cultural institutions. The 65-minute projection will take place in the cinema's 217-seat main auditorium, bringing experimental moving-image works into the collective experience of the big screen.
The screening traces a path through Gardoni's artistic practice, from the observation of nature — particularly water, ice and the Alpine landscape — to experimental documentary, exploring the relationships between image, movement, time and sound. Rooted in the mountainous landscape of Italy's Val Camonica, Gardoni's work often begins with the patient observation of natural phenomena. Water becomes an abstract visual composition, recalling Claude Monet's investigations of light and reflection. Elsewhere, the camera turns towards human gestures and the passage of time.
Three works focus on craftsmanship and the relationship between human activity and sound: a portrait of Italian violin maker Filippo Fasser, the tuning of a Steinway grand piano by Giulio Passadori, and the traditional boatbuilding practice of Venetian craftsman Giovanni da Ponte. Music plays a central role throughout the programme, with works featuring Grand River and Abul Mogard, Eathan, Luca Formentini and Tiberio Faedi. The final film draws on the practice of the sleep concert, exploring an immersive form of listening suspended between wakefulness and sleep. Several works will receive their first public screenings. Film critic Paolo Fossati will introduce the evening and lead a conversation with the artist and guests.
