“SHADOW WHISPERS”
Selected Filmworks of Kaoru Tachibana

A filmmaker now unknown and forgotten but with a rich production of personal works on film, ranging from experimental cinema to avant-garde home movies.
Eight of these titles have been carefully selected for the first overseas solo exhibition dedicated to Kaoru Tachibana's films. The screening will be held in Parma in the Borgo Santa Brigida 5/a theatre at 9:00 pm.

Real name, place and date of birth? Unknown. Very little is known about Kaoru Tachibana's life and we have decided to maintain this veil of secrecy without revealing too much. Instead, the personal films of this hunter and alchemist of light will whisper to us sounds, fragments of images and moments captured thirty years ago.
The titles on the program were in fact made between 1993 and 1996, a period in which Tachibana shaped his personal style through trial and error, exploring curious filmmaking techniques and actively experiencing the Tokyo underground scene together with his classmates at the Image Forum Institute. Last year we had the opportunity to delve into the visions of these filmmakers on several occasions. This time, however, we want to go even deeper and start the season by bringing to Italy a long-neglected piece of end of the century underground cinema.

So we begin with the Prelude to the trilogy “Kioku no gen'ya” (Field of Memories, 1994-96), of which the first sections will also be screened: “Raven Time, Iron Voice” and “A Star Further Away than the Night”. A series of short films follows and finally the ruin film “See Through the Shadow of Darkness” (1996) will be screened.

A series of seemingly disconnected titles, no coordinates, details shrouded in darkness, collages of uncertain images and sounds that abruptly break the silence, a  constant background to many of the scenarios filmed. 15 years have passed since the last public screening of Tachibana's filmworks, an author who
prefers uncertainty as a starting point for watching his films. Perhaps it is precisely in those jet-black and dim frames that the reflection on what we believe we
have seen in Tachibana's play of light, shadow, memory and murmur arises.

Accomplices and guilty of not having said anything and of having revealed too much, we invite you to Borgo Santa Brigida 5/a to explore the strange world of Kaoru Tachibana.

All the works will be screened digitally.
Event organized thanks to the collaboration with Cinematrain.
The ticket price is €7.
