From staples of the independent Canadian scene, filmmakers Kalil Haddad and Ryan Steel present the US premiere of their new shorts cycle You Sorta Know It’s Gonna End, a tangle of nostalgia, masculine crisis and caustic youth. Conceived as a video mixtape, this hour-long compendium echoes the era of VHS rips, featuring ten classic shorts from both directors, alongside their new collaboration ‘BAND PRACTICE’. A bold new voice in queer experimental film, Kalil Haddad’s global tour of his previous collection ‘He Never Dies: The Films of Kalil Haddad’ established him as a provocateur; reckoning with a fraught visual aesthetic which inhabits the burning edge of cultural danger and morality. He recently starred in Isiah Medina’s 2025 feature, Gangsterism (2025). Ryan Steel is a member of the Winnipeg Film Group, previously working with established voices of the Canadian avant-garde such as directors Guy Maddin (My Winnipeg, Rumours) and Grace Glowiki (Dead Lover). He brings
to this work his notion of material, analog and DIY aesthetic – together, crafting You Sorta Know It’s Gonna End as a tangle of nostalgia, masculine crisis and caustic youth.
