HOLON (1982-2017)
Holon is a flipbook that creates an illusion of motion when the pages are flipped through rapidly.

The images of this artist’s flip book are taken from an eponymous abstract film made by Christian Lebrat in 1982. The book can be turned over and flipped as well; the two directions correspond to the two sections of the film. It comes in a sleeve. The resulting artwork presents the film in another form.

A flip book for the curious, for collectors, for flipbook lovers.

Limited edition of 800 copies.

Xcèntric: Geometric drift

By Marcos Ortega on Fri, 25/11/2016 - 06:20

A programme of screenings to accompany the exhibition “The Thinking Machine. Ramon Llull and the «ars combinatoria»”

Before artists worked with computers, a series of avant-garde painters such as Oskar Fischinger, Harry Smith and Jordan Belson created a form of non-narrative film that addressed geometry, the possibilities of mathematic combinations, and spirituality. After these visionaries, artists like John Whitney embraced the new synthetic image medium to continue exploring abstract animation. Many artists have followed in their wake, up until the present day.

Exhibited Cinema – Exhibiting artists’ films, video art and moving image
The aims of this book are twofold: on the one hand, based on archival research, it seeks to identify the status of film and of the moving image in the field of contemporary art in French-speaking Switzerland and abroad; on the other hand, it aims at assessing the influence of exhibition contexts on a multiplicity of film practices (on their temporal aspects, the multiplication of surfaces of projection, the reception by a mobile spectator).
