  • Teo Hernández: A Pomegranate Orchard and the Bitter Well

    By on
    Feuilles d’été (Teo Hernández, 1983)

In only 23 years Teo Hernández, one of the central figures of Paris’s queer avant-garde film scene of the 1970s and ’80s, produced a monumental body of work that reveals how myth and zealous desire are inextricably knit to our everyday lives. Across more than 150 Super 8mm films, encompassing portraiture, urban landscapes, and diaristic cinema, he ceaselessly forged radical alternatives to linear time and perspectival vision, entrancing audiences with a visceral style that affects both body and spirit.

  • L'eau de la Seine / Water from the Tremulous Stream / Sea of Glass

    By on

Related in their subject matter, water and light, these films also share an ultra-sensitive attunement to life and movement within and without. Water from the tremulous stream is as energetic as the stream itself: glimmering cascades of light, glimpses of trees and sky. Sea of Glass is quietly monumental, journeying through an entire world in its twenty-six minutes. Moments in both films seem to hail back to Teo Hernández's reflection of light on the Seine.

Once a month and for a limited time, we'll share a film from our catalogue, accompanied by an in-depth presentation given by a specialist. This initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Catalan Association of Film Criticism and Writing (ACCEC).

  • L’Âge d’Or 2015

    By on

Belgian experimental film festival L’Âge d’Or comes back next October 3-10 with the second edition of its new run. 2015 celebrates the 50th anniversary of Super 8 and so for its second edition, the Âge d’Or festival has chosen to pay homage to the work of the fiercest advocates of this format, too often denigrated and considered ‘amateur’. A format however that has been, and sometimes still is, the terrain of innovative cinematic experiments, full of the constraints that only it can create.
