Simon Payne studied at the Kent Institute of Art and Design, Maidstone; Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee; and the Royal College of Art, London. As a student, he quickly identified with formal approaches and traditions in experimental film. But he eschewed filmmaking, preferring the immediacy of video, especially when it became a digital medium that facilitated a readily systematic means of dealing with time.

Visual artist, Joseph Bernard was born in Port Chester, NY, educated at the University of Hartford Art School and School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he studied with independent filmmaker, Stan Brakhage.

For 35 years, Professor Emeritus, Bernard taught fine arts at Detroit’s College for Creative Studies. Experimental collage sensibilites are evident in his paintings, films and photographs. Contemporary poetry and music remain as influences. His work is informed by travels to Provincetown, Southern California, Austin, Nashville and other locales.

A screening series of film/video artists who subvert the codes of mass-media, oftening appropriating found footage. These works question and rewrite the visual archives that form our perception of authority, gender, space, and history. Curated by Alison Nguyen. Approx. run time: 72 minutes.

Double programme dedicated to the films of German artist & filmmaker Deborah Phillips, who will show her works on 16mm y 35mm related to the concept of space. There we will be able to see two of her latest works, WHERE IS GREENPOINT? and NACH OSTEN SCHAUEN, from 2017, as well as a retrospective dedicated to places & ornaments, with the special projection of MOSAIC, a 45-minute film shot on 35mm in different parts of the world, as Samarcanda, Bujara, Fez, Casablanca, Andalucía, Isfahán, El Cairo or Istanbul.
