  • Józef Robakowski - My Own Cinema

Józef Robakowski. My Own Cinema is a new publication portraying a precursor of the film neo-avant-garde and the co-creator of the video art scene in Poland. An artist whose image combines that of an experimenter and media analyst with those of an anarchistic neo-Dadaist and self-declared nihilist; heir to the traditions of the avant-garde, enthusiast for cultural peripheries, valued teacher, and indefatigable opponent of institutional hierarchies.

  • Cine expandido

  • James Benning - California Trilogy

Produced at the junction of two millennia, the California Trilogy is James Benning's three-part topographical study of America's "Golden State". Looking to the past while investigating the present, the mathematician-turned-filmmaker condenses three distinct Californian landscapes into a total of 105 shots, each exactly 2½ minutes long. Formal restraint and compositional precision combine with ambient sound and an unheard social commentary to create a hypnotic journey across the 31st US State; from the Great Central Valley (El Valley Centro) through greater Los Angeles (Los) to the Californian wilderness (Sogobi). This 2-disc set presents the complete California Trilogy for the first time ever on DVD.

  • Jonas Mekas - Guns of the Trees

Four young people are trying to understand why their friend, a young woman, committed a suicide. A film made up of disconnected scenes weaving between past and present. The title of the film comes from a poem by Stuart Perkoff which tells that some young people felt (around 1960) that everything is against them, so much that even the trees in the parks and streets seemed to them like guns pointing at their very existence.

  • Nicky Hamlyn - Selected Films (1992-2008)

The 16mm films on this DVD reflect Hamlyn's early formation in painting and drawing, where intense observation was central to the effort to realise images of a visible world that is anything but straightforwardly apprehensible. All the work stems from the way the film medium lends itself to a particular way of structuring temporal images. In the case of film, as opposed to video, the characteristics and constraints of the technology push one towards a way of working with the frame as the basic spatio-temporal unit of construction.

  • Maia Conran - Term

Maia Conran's split screen work Term, mirrors a series of still and tracking video shots of the interior spaces of a disused school with its animated monochrome copy, that mimicks scene for scene the original video footage. Throughout the work Conran invites us to consider what is more real, the video of the school or its animated reconstruction, leading to a progressive condensation of reality, as the animated version slowly invades the authentic space of the video.

  • James Lowne - Our Relationships will become Radiant

James Lowne's Our Relationships will become Radiant, invites us to experience a digital dream, a suffocating demonic landscape where a horse runs without moving, a man vomits black bile, a plate of food oozes with it own sense of purpose, whilst a godlike visage hovers beneficently in the sky. Such uncanny occurence allow Lowne to map out a space of oblique anomie, a world were ephemeral gestures attain meaning only by being endlessly repeated.

  • Let Me Feel Your Finger First - Ontologically Anxious Organism

Let Me Feel Your Finger First's Ontologically Anxious Organism, narrates the experience of an animated character, who nervous about the very concept of character itself, disquises himself as a boulder. The three episodes follow the boulders progress through a series of reconstituted cartoon scenes whilst he grapples with existence, meets his maker and finally slips outside of the space of the picture plane to seek the ultimate reference.
