  • The Film and Video program - The Rencontres of Fez, Morocco

    As part of the Cultural Season France-Morocco 2018, The French Institute of Morocco organizes, site of Fez organizes the International Meetings of the Photo of Fez - 11th edition, which will take place from November 30 to December 20, 2018. Like every edition, many activities are offered to fans of photography and video, including exhibitions, screenings, workshops and debates. The exhibition is presented in various cultural spaces scattered between new city and medina around the theme "Beyond the territories".

  • Directors Lounge Screening: Gabriele Stellbaum - My House Is On Fire

    Gabriele Stellbaum creates art films that are performance and story-based at the same time. It is the second time, the artist presents her work at Directors Lounge. Coming from sculpture, she turned to light projections and time-based multi-channel slide projects and finally to video. The program presents a number of very new and more recent works that she created in Berlin.

  • Walden presents: Peter Gidal

    Peter Gidal was born in 1946 and grew up in Switzerland. After studying psychology and German literature at Brandeis University and Munich University, he started at the Royal College of Art in London. It was also here that he seriously started his film career. In the 1960s his films appeared on the New Arts Lab in Drury Lane and the London Film Maker Co-op, which he also helped establish.

    In the 1960s, WERNER NEKES (1944-2017) began making films and experimenting with different film stocks to scale the possibilities of the medium. Free from narrative and psychological aspects, the films are organized according to temporal units and structural systems as they focus on aspects of representation. In a direct dialogue to pre-cinematographic optical techniques – with different ways to create illusion of movement - Nekes referred to his films as ”light theater”.

    The Pursuit of Wholeness pays tribute to seminal avant-garde filmmaker Gregory Markopoulos, with rare 16mm screenings of two of Markopoulos’ most acclaimed films and an exclusive preview of film critic Georgia Korossi’s documentary Devotion, a film that gives precious testimony of the 2016 edition of Temenos, the quadrennial event of screenings of Markopoulos’ monumental Eniaios. Curated by Eleonora Pesci this programme especially focuses on the ongoing, profound bond between the filmmaker’s works and his Greek heritage.
