    By on

Please join us for the next screening and meet-up of the East London Experimental Film Club at Good Shepherd Studios, a forum for encountering alternative cinema in all of its forms in a friendly and welcoming environment. This month, in the lead-up to the US presidential election, we will be watching the European premiere of American underground artist M Woods' Commodity Trading: Dies Irae (2022). A hallucinatory, nightmarish collage of 16mm film, animation, and archival footage, Commodity Trading engages with and embodies a sense of overwhelming and hypermediated numbness emerging after the election of Donald Trump in 2016.

  • A Synesthete's Atlas: Cartographic Improvisations Between Eric Theise and Edward Schocker

    By on

Real-time cartographic improvisations using projected, manipulated digital maps by Eric Theise, in collaboration with Edward Schocker's alternately tuned instruments and made/found objects. A visual wash of street grids, land masses, water bodies, and curiosities from built and natural environments. Orphaned labels. Free-floating symbology. Redlined reverberations with redefined sonic roadmaps. Saturated colors and the subtlest of tints. Jittery zooms, pans, and traversals. Glitches from crowdsourced data.

Can we foil human hubris and put a stop to relentless growth? How to resist urban alienation and preserve affective ties? The five films selected for this program, all completed between 2022 and 2023 as part of the Atelier 105 residency program, engage with these concerns by proposing a range of perspectives and strategies – from a contemplative, dystopian or even post-apocalyptic stance, to flânerie and the creation of informal networks situated on the fringes of urban centers and based on curiosity and play.
