From April 22 to 25, the Alfred ve dvoře theater will host the 8/16 Festival, focusing on contemporary experimental films and expanded cinema. The festival is a continuation of an irregular series focused on experimental film that Alfred ve dvoře has been organizing since 2019, and which, over the past two years in collaboration with labodoble, has established significant connections with the international audiovisual scene.
The festival will primarily showcase local filmmakers. Among the participants will be filmmakers active since the 1990s, such as Martin Ježek, Jan Daňhel, and Jakub Halousek—who later worked together as the Argentum Vivum art collective—as well as a younger generation of filmmakers: František Týmal, Jiří Rouš, and David Šmitmajer, Jan Kulka, labodoble (Moralesova-Bagdasarov), and other artists: Martin Klapper, Pasi Mäkelä, Kryštof Kočtář, and Kryštof Pátra. The festival will conclude with a special guest, Spanish experimental filmmaker Luis Macías.
Thursday’s program will include a presentation of the performance prototype of the State-of-the-Art 16mm Projector, created by Jan Kulka in collaboration with the Berlin film laboratory Labor Berlin.
On Saturday afternoon, there will also be an Open Screen event—a screen open to the youngest filmmakers in the style of an open mic.
