November Dance Film Night with CreateART

Physical Acts of Light and Protest: Amy Greenfield

We are thrilled to present an evening showcasing the work of choreographer Amy Greenfield, an originator of the cine-dance genre and a pioneer of experimental film and video, curated by Anto(n) Astudillo.

Amy Greenfield's films take us on journeys in which both the camera and the choreographer become researchers and instigators of the possible relationships between the body and the environment that shakes it. Amy herself is often the embodiment of that journey, creating raw choreographies in the open air, while her body is manipulated by other dancers and elements that challenge her, such as water and earth. The short films selected in this program can be read as physical acts of protest, a filmic space of resistance materialized by bodies in motion that try to survive the violence present during the 1960s and 1970s, such as that of the Vietnam War. It should also be noted that 3 of the short films included in this program were made between 1971 and 1973, the years immediately preceding the Roe v. Wade ruling.

We will be showing:

  • Dirt (3min, 1971, digital)
  • Transport (5.5min, 1971, 16mm)
  • Element (12min, 1973, digital)*
  • Tides (12.25min, 1982, 16mm)
  • Antigone/Rites of Passion (25min excerpt, 1990, 16mm)
