Join us for a special screening of This Dissonance, a film shot on 16mm film by UCR Professor Christophe Katrib and nominated for the 2025 DOXA Short Documentary Award. This film offers a powerful and distinct approach to engaged filmmaking—a form of visual resistance that challenges the silence and distortion in mainstream media coverage of ongoing violence against Palestinians.

Through poetic fragmentation and layered testimony, This Dissonance navigates the emotional terrain of exile, complicity, and resistance. Filmmaker Christophe Katrib weaves Palestinian and Lebanese voices with sweeping American landscapes, capturing the aching dissonance of witnessing U.S.-backed atrocities from a distance. The result is a searing reflection on belonging, solidarity, and the generational toll of empire.

The screening will be followed by a talkback between filmmaker Christophe Katrib; Dr. Courtney R. Baker, Associate Professor in the Department of English at UCR; and Nikolay Maslov, Curator of Film & Media Projects at UCR ARTS.
