✸ Cinédoc presents : Novembre Expérimental #5 LA JOUISSANCE CINÉMA ✸
50 years of ParisFilmsCoop • a movement takes shape • November 20-30, 2024
The Paris Films Coop, a cooperative of independent experimental filmmakers founded in France in 1974 to disseminate their films widely, went on to become Cinédoc, via the University of Vincennes, the magazine Melba and ciné-MBXA.
Fifty years on, Novembre expérimental #5 revisits the origins and films of a lively, polymorphous movement that marked the renaissance of experimental cinema in France, with fifty films in a dozen programmes, the symposium De Vincennes à la Paris Films Coop, and reconstructions of ciné-performances, at the Centre Pompidou, the movie houses Le Reflet Médicis and Le Grand Action, Paris 8 University, the Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art, and the DOC!.
We have the pleasure to invite you all to rediscover the singular, multiple, and radical aesthetic of a group of ciné-artisans and ciné-artists, closely working with cinematographic materiality and perception, experiencing an inventive "Jouissance cinéma" freed of narrative-representational-industrial (NRI) settings, in the words of Claudine Eizykman in her eponymous 1975 book.
With the films by Claudine Eizykman, Guy Fihman, Prosper Hillairet, Dominique Willoughby, Alexandre Alexeieff, Kenneth Anger, Pascal Auger, Dominique Avron, Pascal Baes, Jean-Michel Bouhours, Robert Cahen, Pierre Clémenti, Jenny E. Davidson, Hervé Demoures, Marcel Duchamp, Catherine Le Gallou, Barbara Glowczewska, Frédérique Gros, Hartmut Lerch, Jean-François Lyotard, Ahmet Kut, Christian Lebrat, Man Ray, Giovanni Martedi, Jacques Monory, Jacques et Claude Postel, Georges Rey, Hans Richter, Pierre Rovere, Walter Ruttman, Peter Stämpfli, Elisabeth Strassle, Unglee, Jean-Pierre Valladeau, Martine Zevort, …
