✸ Refle-x-périmental #23 Boulevard Magenta ✸
Decadent chromatic evening
► From the heart of Paris Films Coop's historic 1970s collection, this screening brings together a selection of so-called “magenta-tinted” prints – this purple-red-pink hue, “anything but green,” a symptom of the chromatic fading that affects certain film stocks due to the depigmentation of the yellow and cyan layers. With few exceptions, these prints are no longer screened; they are digitally corrected or recolored. This program, on the contrary, offers the opportunity to (re)view them up close, embracing a range of sometimes surprising aesthetic consequences that vary from film to film: from the originally blue monochromes of Monory to the pink tones in the queer film by Martine Zevort and Frédérique Gros, from a wink at a Valentine's Day’s postcard signed by Norman McLaren to a rediscovery of the deeply trance-like Regard de ma fenêtre by Ahmet Kut, and culminating with a unique chromatic cine-performance by Christian Lebrat based on a magenta print of his film Trama. A screening thus with a pink twist, an ultimate tribute to magenta photochemical prints, a manifesto against chromatic ableism, that is sure to make you blush.
Screening introduced by Dominique Willoughby, with filmmaker Christian Lebrat in attendance.
