"In nature, every flower, every single petal, is capable of marveling us. It is not strange that we express the pleasure that its mere color gives us. The spirits of nature speak to us through singular colors, just as the spirits of the heavens speak to us through the sound of various musical instruments. We can hardly express how much we are moved and affected by each color, for the colors themselves speak to us in sweet tones.”
    W. Wackenroder, “Die Farben”.
