    For its second screening of 2025, Cinédoc's ciné-club, dedicated this season to the work of experimental film cooperatives created from the 1960s onwards, will be travelling to the cinema Le Grand Action, on Monday March 24 at 8pm, for an exceptional screening of the ExperimentL.A. cycle initiated in 2023. The March program is conceived in solidarity with the experimental filmmaking community in Los Angeles, following the fires that ravaged the region earlier this year.

  • Pat O'Neill: Three Answers

    A pioneer of experimental cinema, the Los Angeles artist Pat O’Neill developed innovative techniques for radically altering imagery in the predigital era. His highly inventive 16mm films from the 1960s and 1970s explore dense layering and movement within a still frame. In recent years, O’Neill has reworked several of his early films into multiple projections.

    This weekend spotlight on film pioneer Pat O’Neill explores the Los Angeles artist’s recent moving image work and dynamic use of various animation techniques. Playing continuously in the Gina and Stuart Peterson White Box, this program includes a three-channel version of Trouble in the Image (1996/2015). Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Pat O’Neill: Three Answers on Floor 7.

    Pat O’Neill’s rarely screened masterpiece Water and Power (1989) is a technological feat on the terrifying desert created by Los Angeles’ enormous water consumption. O’Neill focused intently on the industry that sprang up around Los Angeles, ‘the city that changed land into desert’, which he filmed with the use of time-lapse photography and optical printing and animation. In this way, he managed to expose the inexorable conflict between industry and nature.
