Dominic Angerame

Dominic Angerame (Albany, Nueva York, EEUU, 1949) es un cineasta experimental estadounidense que ha realizado más de 35 filmes desde 1969, que han sido presentados en festivales por todo el mundo. Angerame presentó su '' junto con Pixiescope, Waifen Maiden, Consume, y Anaconda Targets en el Festival de Cine de La Habana en 2006. Esta fue la primera presentación de cine experimental en los 28 años del festival.

Dominic Angerame is an American experimental filmmaker who has directed more than 35 films since 1969. He has presented films in film festivals worldwide. Dominic presented his 'Revelations' along with Pixiescope, Waifen Maiden, Consume, and Anaconda Targets at the Havana Film Festival in 2006.

Dominic will screen his collection of shorts titled Revelations at the Film Club.

ominic Angerame. De nacionalidad norteamaricana. Nacido en Nueva York en 1949, vive, da clases y trabaja en San Francisco. Desde 1969, Dominic Angerame ha realizado más de veinticinco películas, que han sido proyectadas y premiadas en diversos festivales cinematográficos de todo el mundo. Dos series “Cine Probe” del MoMA de Nueva York han estado dedicadas a él en 1993 y 1998. Angerame da clases de realización, fotografía y crítica en la Universidad de Berkeley y en el Art Institute de San Francisco.

A Roll For Peter in Vancouver

Iris Film Collective, in collaboration with Dance Troupe Practice is pleased to present “A Roll For Peter”, the touring program of films made in tribute to the late great filmmaker Peter Hutton.

The films come to Vancouver in serendipitous confluence with two screenings as part of the DIM series at The Pacific Cinematheque of Hutton’s work (the second takes place on April 26).

Hutton, an American artist and educator, developed a unique perspective on both urban and remote landscapes through his images from the early 1970’s until his death in 2016.

For the second installment of Eye on a Director, MAD highlights the collection of the legendary film distributor and archive Canyon Cinema. In the late 1950s, Canyon Cinema brought together independent film artists whose work reflected a remarkable diversity in style and content. Variously called avant-garde, underground and experimental, these artists shared a vision of filmmaking as a form of personal expression, free from the demands and constraints of commercial conventions.

Born in 1949 in New York, Dominic Angerame teaches, lives and works in San Francisco. Since 1969, he has directed over thirty-five films screened and awarded in many festivals around the world. He teaches directing, cinematography and criticism at the University of Berkeley in California, San Francisco Art Institute and also acted as professor and associate artist in many institutions. He led for more than 30 years of Canyon Cinema distribution cooperative. His work is greatly influenced by the avant-garde cinema, particularly the 1920s and 1930s, and explores the cycle of destruction and construction imposed by man on his urban environment, constantly changing.

On Saturday, February 5, at 2 pm, the Exploratorium presents a special screening of two short films that examine light and shadow. They are The Soul of Things by Dominic Angerame and László Moholy-Nagy’s Light Play. This event is included in the price of admission to the Exploratorium.

Award-winning filmmaker Dominic Angerame will present The Soul of Things (2010, 15 min.), a work that uses historical San Francisco footage to explore the fluid nature of urban architecture through the saturated chemistry of black and white high-contrast film. The film will be presented in 16mm and accompanied by a live soundscape written and performed by San Francisco musician Kevin Barnard.

The program also includes Light Play: Black/White/Gray (1930, 6 min.), László Moholy-Nagy’s cinematic study of a kinetic sculpture called the Light-Space Modulator that creates luminous shadows and reflections. Don’t miss this unique event and the opportunity to meet filmmaker Dominic Angerame. The Cinema Arts Program is funded in part by the Louis Goldblatt Memorial Fund and by a grant from Grants for the Arts/San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund.
