A Synesthete’s Atlas - Eric Theise solo

Thursday, March 2nd, artist/software engineer Eric Theise will perform A Synesthete’s Atlas, an improvised cartographic salon piece using projected maps based on OpenStreetMap data. Since the premiere performance in Lisbon, April 2022, Theise has collaborated with improvising musicians across the US; this will be his first solo performance, with maps being manipulated to a soundscape inspired by the Library's cartographic and geographic holdings.

Cinema Expanded - Avant-Garde Film in the Age of Intermedia
Expanded cinema: avant-garde moving image works that claim new territory for the cinematic, beyond the bounds of familiar filmmaking practices and the traditional theatrical exhibition space. First emerging in the 1960s amidst seismic shifts in the arts, multi-screen films, live cinematic performance, light art, kinetic art, video, and computer-generated imagery - all placed under expanded cinema's umbrella - re-emerged at the dawn of the 2000s, opening a vast new horizon of possibility for the moving image, and perhaps even heralding the end of cinema as we know it.

The 3rd Annual Film and Video Poetry Symposium is scheduled for Fall 2020. Call for entries are now open!

Poets, filmmakers, media artists, and video artists are called to submit their work to the 3rd Annual Film and Video Poetry Symposium. This festival and symposium will screen a large scope of film and video projects developed through the medium of poetry. The symposium programmers also curate and present a gallery exhibit in conjunction with the film screenings.

An encounter between a film artist with two 16mm projectors, and two improvising musicians ; a violinist and a guitarist. The will to propose a frictional dialogue between sounds and images, without a hierarchy between both medium : sounds can go with the images, as well causing them, incite them, confront them… images can initiate the mouvements, as well as melt into them. The will to experiment the fragility of a communication between loops on celluloid, expressing itself in a mechanical time, and the organic expression of wooden vibrant instruments.
