Multiformes - Experimental film & video screening at Biennale VIDEOPROJECT

Multiform examines the representation of the image through the media materiality and the creative process of the artist. The multiple media used to create the films and videos of this program demonstrate a variety of devices directly related to the material and conceptual reappropriation of the image by the artist. Through the use of found footage, self-portrait, homage, or travel diary, the works unveil their mechanism, their organicity, their process and their own representation.

Underground: The Untold Story of the Funnel film collective
This book offers an oral history collage of Toronto’s underground movie collective called the Funnel. Between 1977-89 they built four theatres, fought censorship, made artist’s films, published catalogues, ran an art gallery, showed and distributed movies from around the world. Here at last is the story told by people who were there.

Filmmaker Mike Hoolboom in person!

Filmforum is honored to welcome Toronto-based artist, writer, curator, poet, thinker, and filmmaker Mike Hoolboom for the Los Angeles premiere of his brand new feature, Incident Reports. (Hoolboom will also be showing a selection of short works at REDCAT on Monday, 9/19.)

Mike Hoolboom has forged a singular artistic and curatorial identity over the past few decades, as his various creative, intellectual, pedagogical, and research practices have overlapped and interwoven, along with the circumstances and experiences of his own life. As a result, encountering Hoolboom's work – whether through his films, his criticism, his curating, his teaching, etc. -- is something akin to experiencing a rich, intricate, and irreducible slice of Hoolboom himself.

The Socio-enviromental film show is dedicated to generate thought about the relations between landscape, inner spaces, mankind and animality in the Anthropocene. Gathering films, a round table and an installation the aim is to develop thought and decolonized perspectives about the current degradation state in the whole socio-enviromental context in which the showing occurs, the Pernambuco state in Brazil. The two programmes (Animal qualque(e)r & Cidade da Si/elva) articulate films from yann beauvais, Mike Hoolboom, Claudio Caldini, Duke and Battersby with women filmmakers like Cherry Kino, Juliana Dorneles, Rai Sacramento, Renata Claus and Carla Lombardo (installation) in order to create interconnections between gender, sexuality, nature and cultural dimensions.

B3 is presenting an exhibition about yann beauvais's 40 years of activist, within experimental cinema and video art, since 1974. The show is curated by Jean-Michel Bouhours (Curator from Modern Art National Museum Historical Dept- Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris) and will be on display for 3 months from November 22nd 2104 to February 22nd 2015. For yann beauvais: Making experimental cinema is taking into account both an undervalued story, but also examine how non-narrative, are breaking with historical patterns of narration from a linear support: the movie.

The diversity of thought with cinema. Thus the text as an image, the relations between image and sound, are part of personal films with an autobiographical dimension. Themes such as the contemporary consumer society, advertising, representation of women and neocolonialism are the focus of several sessions. While others show the film in a situation where celluloid and video speak their differences through the film as sculpture. The issue of the media, placing film and video in different sites, ranging from theater to the gallery, will also be addressed in the sessions. The films will be screened with subtitles in Portuguese and those will be available for filmmakers, and / or distributors.
